i3 Windows manager
#1
Hello , I have been using Bergamo and like it . There are not i3-wm or i3-gaps related packages neither on native PCLinuxOS or Bergamo repository . It is requested that it would be great to have i3 wm and its related packages to Bergamo repository.

Thanks .

Hello @saleem, unfortunately i3-wm was rejected from Textar, PCLinuxOS's patron, last post was from 2016. No one pclos's developer was interested to import i3wm. I can try to do it, but it is not our purpose, so it will be no early. Maybe you can try it yourself

Thank you @adrianomorselli , yes I understand somehow PCLinuxOS team does not want or accepted my request to add i3 wm packages to PCLinuxOS repos even that I am an older timer user of PCLinuxOS since its version 0.98 . Perhaps your team might consider my request someday .

Thanks and regards,

Hello Saleem. I have no good news for you, I did my best, I was to able easly to rebuild i3, i3-doc, i3lock and i3status. Next I rebuild i3-gaps, i3 fork, not so easly because pclinuxos has an old Perl version. Then I rebuilded polybar but it does not work since libcurl version has not openssl support, so polybar crash immediately. After three days I stopped here, I am a UfficioZero's developer and it is not possible to rebuild all Perl (a few hundreds of packages) or introduce packages that I do not know if they are compatible with our SO.
If you will be able you can try to install polybar yourself from source https://github.com/polybar/polybar/wiki/Compiling
If Textar refused to build i3 there is a reason. I will send my work to you with webtransfer, but polybar does not work, sorry.

Hi Saleem,

you can try some i3wm packages on our sourceforge Bergamo folder called "source_packages".
Here your links:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ufficio...3wm.tar.xz
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ufficio...che.tar.xz

as written by Adriano in private the other packages cannot be compiled for obvious reasons described.
We close the thread as solved.
